Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions has consistently opposed civil rights for LGBT Americans, voted against reauthorization for the Violence Against Women Act, and has called the Voting Rights Act a "piece of intrusive legislation."
Sessions is a co-sponsor of the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), which would allow a corporation, organization or person to ignore federal laws that conflict with their personal religious beliefs about marriage, and thereby open to the door to anti-LGBT discrimination in nearly every area of public life, including employment, housing, education and health care.
For these and other reasons, we have serious concerns about his willingness to defend and uphold the civil rights of all Americans. We strongly oppose his nomination as Attorney General of the United States, and urge members of Congress to vote no on his nomination.
