We were founded as Lavender Health in 1979 as an all-volunteer resource to meet the needs of members of the LGBT community. We were born in a pandemic. We rose to meet the challenge posed by the AIDS crisis in the early 1980s and for more than forty years we have continually risen to meet the challenges the LGBT community has faced in obtaining competent and respectful care.

Incorporated as Philadelphia Community Health Alternatives (PCHA) in 1981, we were the first agency in Philadelphia to respond to the AIDS crisis. Today, we continue to serve the LGBTQ+ community through expanded services which include HIV prevention and care, primary medical care, medical case management, mental health counseling and treatment of substance use disorder , legal services, youth support in schools, LGBTQ+ competency training, a food bank, and the annual Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference

We believe that all people deserve access to high-quality, affirming health care in an environment where they feel respected and their needs are understood.
