When Carl decided to walk on to the Penn State football team, he was far from a star. By his senior year, Carl had transformed himself into a dominant force on the field. In 2015, he led the nation in sacks, earning the title of Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year and becoming a unanimous All-American.

The Cleveland Browns took notice of Carl’s meteoric rise and selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.He soon found a new home with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where his relentless work ethic and knack for getting to the quarterback began to shine. Over the next two seasons, he racked up 12.5 sacks, proving that he was more than just a journeyman in the NFL.

On June 21, 2021, Carl Nassib made a courageous decision that would forever change the course of his life—and the lives of many others. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Carl came out as gay, becoming the first active NFL player to do so.
