Hard Candy Bash will be TRIP’s biggest event ever!
On Saturday, June 3, Mazzoni Center’s The Real Impact Project (aka TRIP) is thrilled to welcome Big Freedia, aka the Queen of Bounce, for a night of music, dancing and community building at the University of the Arts in Center City Philadelphia. TRIP is a social initiative designed to raise awareness regarding sexual health amongst the African-American LGBTQ community, which we do through a mix of unique events, outreach and engagement activities that promote self-empowerment.
Hard Candy Bash will be TRIP’s biggest event ever! Come party with the Queen Diva, the one and only, Big Freedia! We are celebrating the resilience, community building, and unity between LGBT people of color. The theme is “Bright and bold” – by which we mean to communicate: be bright, be bold, be you! We chose Big Freedia as the host and main performer for this event because of what she represents, boundless courage, tenacity, individuality, and positivity. She is a light to the community and continues to break barriers with her unique style and voice. Her presence and impact as an international performer, media personality, author, and beyond resonates perfectly with TRIP and our mission.
With all that has occurred in Philadelphia regarding LGBTQ people of color, much of the narrative has focused on our activism, fight for just treatment, and representation. Hard Candy Bash is an acknowledgment to the community and a thank you for their efforts towards equality. It will also offer a chance for community members to learn about some important health-related resources, including navigation services, PrEP and PEP, trans-care services, youth programs and more.
TRIP wants to continue to raise awareness regarding sexual health and overall wellness, challenge cultural/gender norms, and create dynamic cultural experiences that will further bring together the LGBT community of color.
Folks can expect a high-energy, interactive, cultural celebration of the LGBTQ community of color, featuring tons of music, dancing and a “best dressed” contest as well. There will be refreshments and alcoholic beverages available to those of legal age.
Hard Candy Bash takes place Saturday, June 3 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at UArts’ Solmssen Court, 320 South Broad Street. Tickets will be available online prior to the event, and can be purchased at the door as well. For more info visit mazzonicenter.org/hardcandy
