Mazzoni Center Receives $100,000 from the Independence Blue Cross Foundation
Mazzoni Center is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded $100,00 from the Independence Blue Cross Foundation’s (IBC) Blue Safety Net grant program. A grant of $50,000 will provide continued support for the position of Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC), which has been in place at Mazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine (MCFCM) since June of 2014.
An additional grant of $50,000 will enable our medical practice to continue to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services focusing on the needs of uninsured and underinsured LGBTQ individuals in the greater Philadelphia area.
As a member of the primary care team, our Behavioral Health Consultant Charles Grove offers support in relation to a variety of behavioral health needs and works closely with patients in need of higher level behavioral health services to secure referrals that best serve patients’ needs and resources.
Said Practice Manager Valerie Canavin, “Charlie’s role as Behavioral Health Consultant has become essential to the advancement of our mission to provide primary care services of the highest quality to Mazzoni Center Family and Community medicine. Our patients and providers couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the great results of his efforts.”
Mazzoni Center was one of 40 community health center clinics in our region to win this funding through IBC’s Blue Safety Net Initiative, which provides grant support to non-profit, privately-funded health clinics serving medically underserved communities in southeastern Pennsylvania.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, Mazzoni Center Executive Director Nurit L. Shein said, adding that, “the funding provided by the Blue Safety Net Program is critical to our ability to provide quality primary health care to those members of our communities who have the greatest needs, regardless of their ability to pay.”
