Brave Schools Leadership Programs
Youth Leadership Board
Formerly the Student Leadership Board, the Youth Leadership Board was renamed to include young people who may not be in school. In keeping with the name change, YLB has been expanded to match our other programming and welcome youth from ages 13-24.
Youth Leadership Board meets twice a month after school to advocate for policies impacting LGBTQ youth, create community events, and provide education to peers and school staff. YLB members learn youth leadership skills and have opportunities to connect with city and nationwide LGBTQ advocacy positions.
In the Spring of each school year, Brave Schools welcomes up to six student interns from local Philadelphia high schools, who help plan the LEAD conference. Interns receive school credit for their time, and each intern prepares a workshop to be presented to their peers at the conference.
GSA Development Support
The Brave Schools Program is working in partnership with The School District of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs to ensure that there is a GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) in every school. If you are a student, administrator, or school staff member who is interested in starting a GSA, please reach out!
In addition, Brave Schools provides programming, advocacy, and educational support to existing GSAs. If you are interested in bringing Brave Schools programming to your GSA, getting your members connected to the Youth Leadership Board, or attending the LEAD conference, please reach out to the Brave Schools Coordinator, Wren Lansky, at [email protected].
