Mark Watkins, DO, will join the clinical staff of Mazzoni Center Family & Community Medicine in summer 2016
Mazzoni Center is pleased to announce that Mark Watkins, DO, of Triangle Medical Inc. (253 S. 10th Street) will join the clinical staff at Mazzoni Center Family & Community Medicine (809 Locust Street) in summer 2016. Dr. Watkins is an experienced and much admired practitioner of family medicine with special expertise in caring for people with HIV and LGBT individuals.
Dr. Watkins has practiced family medicine for more than 25 years and currently has an active patient base of over 1,700 individuals. A Philadelphia native, he complete his undergraduate studies at Ursinus College, earned his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 1986, and completed his residency in 1989 at Saint Joseph's Hospital/PCOM.
Dr. Watkins will be employed by Mazzoni Center and will continue to see patients at the Triangle Medical offices until summer 2017, when Mazzoni will consolidate its medical, behavioral health, case management and administrative operations in one location at Broad and Bainbridge Streets.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Watkins to our staff,” Mazzoni Center CEO Nurit Shein said, adding that: “His excellent reputation and clinical expertise make him an ideal addition to our practice.”
With the addition of Dr. Watkins, Mazzoni’s clinical team will consist of six physicians, four nurse practitioners, one physician assistant and two nurses in addition to an onsite behavioral health consultant and a nutritionist.
Currently Mazzoni’s family medical practice sees approximately 25,000 patient visits a year, and is the primary care home to over 11,000 individuals. With the move to Broad and Bainbridge Streets in 2017, the practice will double its capacity from 13 to 26 exams rooms, and expand its hours of operation, allowing its clinical team to serve many more patients and reduce or eliminate wait times for appointments.
“As we prepare to move and to expand significantly the capacity of our medical practice, Dr. Watkins will be an essential member of our clinical team,” Shein said.
“I look forward to being part of Mazzoni Center’s growing primary care practice and to joining an exceptionally dedicated team of providers,” Watkins said. “I’ve had the privilege of providing medical care to many patients in Center City over the years, and I believe this move will offer them even greater convenience and access to the many resources within Mazzoni Center’s continuum of care.”
“It’s a pleasure for us to welcome a physician who possesses Mark Watkins’ level of skill, compassion and experience to our team,” said Mazzoni Medical Director Robert Winn, MD. “All of us at Mazzoni Family & Community Medicine look forward to working with him and eventually to welcoming his patients to our new facility at Broad and Bainbridge Streets.”
