Kai Thigpen LSW
Kai obtained their Master’s in Social Service from Bryn Mawr College and their BA in Psychology and Gender and Sexuality Studies from Bard College. They have experience providing therapy to diverse populations in community mental health settings as well as in college counseling. Kai works from a trauma-informed, person-centered framework and incorporates approaches such as relational therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and internal family systems so as to best support clients in achieving their goals. Their interests include exploration and development of identity, working through the effects of past trauma, improving relationships and communication, bolstering self-care skills, and regulating emotions. In doing so, Kai is committed to maintaining awareness of dynamics of privilege and oppression in clients’ lives and in the therapeutic relationship. They also strive to provide a comfortable and non-judgmental space.
