Health and Sexuality Educator

Von Eaton is the Health and Sexuality Educator, specializing in youth-oriented curriculum around sexual health, LGBTQ+ identity and allyship, relationship navigation, HIV/AIDS efficacy and stigma, and self-worth. They have been working in LGBTQ+ and sexual health education for the last 4 years. Originally from the Outer Banks, North Carolina, Von earned their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from East Carolina University, where they focused their work on queer socio-political liberation and visibility. Then, they went on to earn their Master of Arts in Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where they worked to create community-oriented research and programming to help improve the lives of queer people, specifically trans people of color. They also served as the first program assistant to UNCW's LGBTQIA+ Resource Office and founded their peer mentoring program, student speaker's bureau, and student-oriented workshops. They strive to emp  ower youth to make informed choices, liberate them from shame and oppression, and create an environment in which they can flourish. Their teaching philosophy fosters a sense of personal responsibility and confidence that allows students to be voices for equality in their own communities.
