Disability

  • We embrace a broad definition of disability, including physical disabilities, chronic illness, neurodivergence, sensory impairments, mental illness (and mad pride), intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and more.
  • We are specifically seeking workshop proposals that address the topic of disability and gender as it relates to:
  • Improving accessibility, confronting ableism, and addressing isolation within trans communities
  • Exploration of trans disability activism, including trans involvement in the disability rights movement
  • Examination of the intersections of ableism and transphobia in medicine, queer spaces, society at large, etc.
  • Best practices for self-advocacy/safety in medical and non-medical settings
  • Accessing disability resources as a trans person
  • Overcoming ableist barriers to trans health care
  • Managing trans health care and chronic illness
  • Self-care strategies
  • Dating and relationships as a disabled trans person
  • Disabled sex and sexuality, including adaptive sex and sex toys
  • Specific intersections of disabled & trans identities (such as disabled & trans People of Color, d/Deaf/HoH & trans, Autistic & trans, and more)
  • Opportunities for disabled attendees to establish dialog and build community
  • Fostering understanding, solidarity, and cooperation across different disabilities and identities
