Meet the IRC!
The Interdisciplinary Review Committee (IRC) is a committee comprised of TGNC and non-binary community members, and TGNC, and non-binary Mazzoni Center staff. The IRC is tasked with reviewing and selecting all workshops for the general track of the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference.
The 2019 IRC is primarily comprised of people of color and ranges in age from 16 to 78 years old. They are:
As our call for workshop proposals came to a close in early February 2019, the members of the IRC came together and undertook the critical task of reviewing every workshop proposal. As the sole group of people responsible for the content of the world’s largest free trans-specific event in the world, the IRC had a massive task ahead of them. They spent hours reviewing over 350 proposed panels, presentations, roundtables, and more, delivering vital feedback and making difficult decisions. All proposals voted “yes” by a majority of IRC members was selected to be entered into the schedule. All proposals voted unanimously “no” were removed from the selection process in the first round. Proposals with an uneven amount of votes were then discussed as a group and a consensus was reached on each and every proposal in the second round. In the end, the IRC selected a selection of about 200 workshops for this year’s PTWC. The responsibility for declining and accepting workshop proposals is not an easy one to hold but it is one that we are proud of the IRC for taking on and making the tough decisions that needed to be made.
The IRC, also provides input on other programmatic decisions such as the cover art competition, PTWC keynote speakers, awards and honorees, and PTWC community events.
