WPATH Standards of Care state that healthcare professionals recommending hormone therapy or surgery should discuss reproductive options with patients prior to the initiation of these medical treatments for gender dysphoria. We will review the impact of hormone therapy and/or gender-affirming surgery on fertility, as well as discussing options for oocyte or sperm banking prior to initiation of transition and the subsequent use of cryopreserved gametes. Finally, we will discuss fertility options after people have initiated hormone therapy and/or had some gender affirming surgery.

About the presenters

jackie Gutmann

Dr. Gutmann completed her medical education, residency and fellowship at Yale University. She practices at RMA of Philadelphia and is on the faculty of Jefferson University. Dr. Gutmann has published numerous articles and has lectured extensively on LGBT family building. She has held leadership positions in many professional organizations and is on the advisory board of several patient advocacy groups. Path2Parenthood, an inclusive organization committed to helping people create their families of choice, recognized Dr. Gutmann for her contributions to reproductive health and family building.
