Robert Mitchell is a retired diversity and inclusion, and communications specialist, most recently at Harvard University. His career focused on helping to create and support a diverse working environment and educating the workforce about the importance of understanding, working with, and supporting a diverse community. During his 17 years at Harvard, he chaired the Association of Black Faculty, Administrators and Fellows; was a member of the Harvard University Staff Diversity Committee; and the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations Advisory Board. His many years in media relations also included Director of Communications for the Mayor of Philadelphia (William J. Green), and News Officer at the University of Pennsylvania. He also taught public relations at Northeastern University.

Bob has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Fenway Community Health Center in Boston and the Human Rights Campaign-Boston Steering Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art where he chairs the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group.

He holds an M.A. in journalism from Syracuse University and a B.A. in sociology from Quinnipiac University.

Having worked with and seen the impact an organization like Fenway Health Center has on underrepresented communities in Boston, I am eager to work with Mazzoni Center which has similar goals and objectives…to provide “services to those who might otherwise not receive them.”
