It's official: Mazzoni Center’s annual celebration and fundraiser, Elixir: the Cure for the Common Gala, will take place Friday, May 19, 2017 in the Lubert Plaza, a beautiful outdoor space at the heart of Jefferson’s Center City campus between Locust and Walnut and 10th and 11th Streets. This year's event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with a special VIP reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Bill Paszek grew up in an era when HIV/AIDS was a deadly diagnosis and recalls the atmosphere of fear and anger he felt in the 1980s and 90s. “I was a teenager,” he says, “and it left a lasting impression on me.” 
Bill attended his first Mazzoni fundraiser six years ago, and began to learn about our history: that Mazzoni Center was the oldest HIV/AIDS organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the fourth oldest in the United States.

If you haven’t caught Spring Fever yet we wouldn’t blame you, given that it was snowing just a few days ago.  But this Saturday night a pair of community advocates and artists are hoping you’ll join them for a lively and “illuminating” night they've dubbed Spring Fever at Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar (200 S. 12th Street), to get your dance on and help raise funds for Mazzoni Center.

Ben Judd is currently a 1st year graduate student at Drexel University’s physician assistant program, where he will graduate in 2017.  A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Ben has also served as a firefighter/EMT in the Air Force for nearly five years, and was stationed in Texas, North Carolina, Kansas, and deployed overseas.

Drag show Philadelphia Mazzoni Center LGBT March 25 2016
Eddie Malone got into drag performing almost by accident.  Several years ago, the Tom’s River, NJ native was living in Charlotte, NC, where his roommate at the time was organizing a drag competition at a local bar.  At the last minute, one of the performers dropped out - and Eddie’s roommate was in a real bind.  
“He was freaking a bit, so I said, ‘I'll do it - it’s not like anyone will vote for me.’”  No one was more surprised that Eddie himself when he came in first place.
