Why Are We Doing This?
1) More People At Risk of Losing Coverage
In addition to the millions of Pennsylvanians already without or with inadequate coverage, with recent changes in Medicare requirements alone, over 700,000 Pennsylvanians are in danger of losing or reducing their insurance coverage.
2) Rising Costs
Healthcare expenses have risen more drastically than any other costs in the nation. As of last year, Mazzoni Center supports over $1.7million to cover those without insurance and those who have insurance that does not cover the total cost of care.
3) Reducing Barriers to Care
As is often the case, the populations that experience the largest barriers to care are those impacted most by recent changes and cuts, particularly LGBTQ+, communities of color, and those experiencing historic poverty. Financial hardship is the #1 reason individuals avoid medical care, and the #1 reason Americans go into debt.
Our Goal
With Chasing Rainbows in conjunction with OurFest, National Coming Out Day, and National LGBTQ+ History Month, we hope to raise awareness of the challenges some face in getting care while expanding our efforts to assist those without insurance, as well as those with inadequate insurance. How to Get Involved – As Easy as 1-2-3!
Businesses:
- After contacting us, you will receive an intro-kit with instructions, 20 stickers (5 for you to display as you please and the other 15 for sale).
- Each sticker costs a minimum of a $5 donation and has a QR code that patrons can scan and donate. We ask that you verify they made the donation on their phones before you hand them the sticker(s) (no cash should be exchanged).
- A simple script is provided in the intro-kit.
- After the donation, please feature the sticker on your storefront window to show our united community support!
Individuals:
- Please use the donation box/link here or on another section of our page. Each window sticker requires a minimum of a $5 donation. Please note in the donation box how many stickers you would like to purchase!
- Please fill out your contact information in the donation box.
- We will mail your stickers to display as you choose (windows preferred!).
