There are many ways you can participate as a volunteer at Mazzoni. Currently, we are only considering applications for specific positions, which you can view below. Mazzoni Board and Committee Recruitment Priorities
Mazzoni Center's all volunteer Board of Directors meets on average 10 times a year to participate in further developing the overall agency policies, financial health, vision, strategy, and resource development for the organization. Mazzoni Center's board is seeking multi-talented, diverse candidates for the board and committees, especially people of color, women, and trans-identified individuals to apply to the Mazzoni Center Board Governance Committee for consideration.
Talent-wise, in the short-term, the agency would benefit from both board appointment and standing committee candidates with one or more of the following experiences: broad and deep accounting expertise, legal experience as it relates to nonprofit organizations and civil/LGBTQ rights, candidates with a human resources or strategic staffing development perspective, connections to government and public agencies.
Ideal candidates and volunteers for the board or a standing committee have a strong affinity for Mazzoni's mission* statement, are available for weeknight meetings, can be available for evening or weekend events/annual retreat, express willingness to fundraise or speak about the organization with constituents, and must serve on at least one of the agency's active committees. Through fiscal year 2018, the estimated amount of time that a board member is expected to spend on volunteering is about 10 hours a month. The minimum give or get (through fundraising or direct contributions) is currently $1,000 per fiscal year and may be accomplished through special events, online fundraising, and house parties. Board members are committed individuals and make an annual written pledge to attend at least 70% of all board and committee meetings.

We’re looking for a few dedicated volunteers to help staff the reception area in Mazzoni Center’s new building at 1348 Bainbridge Street, Monday through Friday mornings from 9-1 and Monday through Thursday evenings between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., starting in June.
- Greeting visitors, especially patients and clients, at the front desk.
- Advising staff members of visitors’ arrivals.
- Answering the phone and being pleasant and helpful to callers.
- Comfort working with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and sexual orientations/gender identities and presentations.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Good collaborative, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to think on your feet.
- Basic computer skills a plus.
- Reliability/adherence to a set schedule

The outreach team works on our MTU (Mobile Testing Unit) or at Washington West Project to saturate areas in Philadelphia with information about Mazzoni services. Volunteers will conduct outreach duties including informing community members of HIV/STI screening services, agency information, and handing out condoms. Volunteers in this position must be comfortable working with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and diverse sexual/gender identities and presentations. Over 21 years of age preferred but 18 and over will be considered.
Term: Ongoing as needed; times vary Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays. Days, times, and location may vary. Two to four hour shifts available at each site. Department: Prevention and Education

Help represent and promote Mazzoni Center! Volunteers needed to help staff tables at upcoming community events. Must be comfortable engaging and interacting with diverse populations and forms of expression. Volunteers interested in this opportunity can be kept "on call" until the time of a community event; a regular schedule is not required. Minimum 2-3 hour shifts and some training/orientation required, familiarity with Mazzoni Center services preferred, but not necessary. Age: 18+. Transportation not provided. Mazzoni hosts safer sex kit-stuffing parties, where volunteers put condoms, lube and safer-sex information into a packet for distribution. Last year we distributed approximately 170,000 condoms and safer sex kits at our three locations and at community events. This is a great opportunity for 5 – 10 of your friends and colleagues to get together for a hands-on project that really can make a difference. Have you thought about throwing an event to raise money for Mazzoni Center? Mazzoni Center Community Champions are individuals, groups and organizations that throw fundraisers for Mazzoni Center. Last fiscal year, Community Champions raised over $79,265 for our programs and services. House parties, Cabaret or club nights, drag shows, carnation sales, happy hours, participations in triathalons, bake sales, and bowling tournaments are just some of the ways our friends and supporters have worked with us in the past.
