Dear Community,

We may all choose different adjectives, but there’s no glossing over the reality that these are unsettling and perhaps even frightening times that are leaving many of us feeling vulnerable and scared.  It’s not wrong to feel that way. We sometimes feel that way too.

Today, there are just two things that we at Mazzoni Center want to assure you:

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. You are part of a beautiful and caring community, and Mazzoni Center is proud to be an epicenter and a safe haven within that community, along with a wonderful family of allied organizations that serve our LGBTQ community. We are all fortunate to live in a city and state with leaders who are committed to protecting our rights and the vital work that organizations such as Mazzoni Center do. Whatever you are feeling, you are not feeling it alone. And, while it’s understandable to look at this moment as a step backward, remember that all of the progress we have made as a community has been made by our holding close to one another and standing and working together. You are not alone. We are with you.

WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. Mazzoni Center has been dedicated to caring for our LGBTQ+ community for 45 years.  Those four-plus decades include times when some medical professionals were afraid to touch queer people. When the leader of our country refused to utter the word “AIDS.” They included four years that raised the same kind of fears that many of us are experiencing today. And, no matter how challenging it’s been, Mazzoni Center has been here serving our LGBTQ+ community for those 45 years, and, regardless of what new hurdles and roadblocks may be placed in front of us, we have every intention of being here for the next 45 years. We exist to provide whole-person care – medical care, mental health services, care services, legal support, food, and more – for some of the most marginalized members of our community.  That’s the same today as it was yesterday.  Our commitment only grows stronger in challenging times.  We are not going anywhere.
